Flora Détraz

‘You only have to look the Medusa in the face to see her: and she is not mortal. She is beautiful and she laughs’. Hélène Cixous, The Laughter of the Medusa.
GORGO is a solo concert-performance based around the archaic figure of the Gorgon, female monsters and the subversive power of laughter.
In a punk and DIY spirit, inspired by the figures of Nina Hagen, Diamanda Galas and Valeska Gert, and playing on the codes of horror and burlesque, a monster-woman goes into a mystical delirium to a vocal score played live, teeming with laughter, tears, screams, coughs, burps and other vocal dross.
Somewhere between nightmare and cabaret, grimaces and distorted singing, GORGO is a plunge into the gorges of the monstrous.
Gorgo is a clown who laughs out loud. Hits hermself, scratches herself, and lets herself be overwhelmed by everything that happens to her. She is the amnesiac, the one who has forgotten what she has just said. Gorgo is inhabited by the invisible, she feels what she can't see, she sees what isn't there. It's the throat, the cave, the gore go. The mouth that splits open, the slit that laughs.
