In her solo GESÄCHT, Flora Détraz plays a sort of zany singer, caught up in a breathless duel between voice and body. Equipped with a wooden tray that she takes to be an opera stage, she plays with the codes of performance: entrance on stage, bow to an imaginary pianist, lyrical climax, bow to an audience, encore.
The title GESÄCHT comes from a combination of the German words Gesicht (face) and Gestalt (figure). Here the body is transformed into a vibrating field from which different figures appear and disappear. The piece explores the idea that the body is made up of many other bodies: we are all the bodies we have copied, imitated, admired, loved or hated.
GESÄCHT is a tribute to the German baritone singer Dietrich Fisher Diskau and his sublime interpretations of Schubert's Lieder.
