In MUYTE MAKER (‘mutiny’ in old Flemish), joy is seen as an existential, physical and creative premise. Captive to a constraining system, something resembling the puppet theatre and the torture machine, four feminine figures appear like flowering nymphs, in perpetual metamorphosis.
By playing with the contradiction and stereotypical codes of women’s representation, MUYTE MAKER presents disobedient, irrational and ungraspable bodies.
Singing copiously, laughing polyphonically, dancing blindly, chatting cacophonously, medieval imagination, trivial songs and grotesques scenes mingle in this strange operatic ballet, to render a full complexity of their own bodies.
