Inspired by the dreamlike surrealist experimental cinema of director Maya Deren, HURLE is a plunge into the unconscious. The film explores the relationship between the visible and the invisible, between the outside and the inside, between the conscious and the unconscious.
On a backdrop of mineral and forest landscapes, we follow an oracle-woman and her prophetic hallucinations. Mirrors are used here to cut through time and space. We oscillate between the natural environment and inner visions. In this magical eco-system, the body is transformed, enlarged, shrunken and carved up, giving way to apparitions of all kinds: inquisitive doubles, roaring chimeras, screaming faces and dazzling eyes.
The soundtrack is based entirely on voice recordings. The voice, treated like a material in metamorphosis, sometimes becomes wind, smoke, birds - blending in with its environment - and sometimes becomes human again, in a liberating cry of rage.
